How to become a member of Killick Ecovillage's intentional community:

Take the first steps towards your future home.

During the development stage of the project, there are three types of community membership to help you learn more and decide if Killick Ecovillage is right for you:

  • 1 Social Membership

Curious and want to learn more? This first level of membership has an annual fee of $40+hst. Social Membership allows you to stay informed by receiving the newsletter and to take the first step towards learning more by attending select meetings and social events.

  • 2 Explorer Membership

Ready to get more involved and see if Killick Ecovillage is a fit for you? This one-time $250+hst fee allows you to get more involved with the project on a short-term basis, participate in some of the discussions and decision-making and see if the project is a good fit for your family (and if you are a good fit for the Co-op).

This trial period is required before you can become a full Resident Member. The goal is that within 3-6 months an Explorer Member will be able to decide if they want to join the project.

  • 3 Resident Membership

Say yes to living at Killick! Once your household has decided that you want to live in the community, you secure your spot by requesting to purchase a share. Once approved, you become co-owners of the Co-operative by purchasing a share of $1,000 which is fully refundable if a member decides to leave.

Next, you enter into an agreement with the Co-op to put your name on a specific unit in the community and provide the required minimum initial loan, currently set at $15,000.

This can be arranged through a payment plan or other special agreement, determined on a case-by-case basis in a confidential consultation with a dedicated Sub-Circle.

If you can, as a member you are encouraged to provide additional loans over and above the Minimum Initial Loan to ensure we meet our fundraising requirements during development.

Once construction is completed and the homes are ready for moving in, the MHOS model (including Membership, Lease, and Debt Obligations Agreements) will be in force.

If you leave the project before moving in, your loans will remain in the co-op until two years after construction is complete to allow the co-op to stabilize. If the co-op has the ability, it will try to repay these loans as quickly as possible.
