Our Community

At Killick Ecovillage, our members come from many different backgrounds. We are people of all ages, races, identities, and experiences, and we believe that this diversity makes us stronger. Everyone has something unique to contribute, and we welcome all who want to join us in building a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive neighbourhood.

Although we are not yet living at Killick Ecovillage, we are already a community. We gather regularly to share meals, plan for the future, take part in local events, walk the land, and simply enjoy time together. It’s this spirit of connection and care that makes Killick Ecovillage feel like home (even before we move in!) and reminds us why we are building this neighbourhood together.

One member's vision for Killick:

Imagine a housing project in Portugal Cove that includes 51 units of very high quality and super efficient buildings that can be priced at 30-35% of the residents income! Transforming the current home ownership model to something we can all afford with 20% of the units (of the exact same quality) being “affordable housing”!

Imagine the residents in these units having access to nature, walking trails, ponds for fishing and swimming, farmland (for them to grow food.)

and a supportive multi-generational community where you can age in place.

Imagine a multi-generational community where seniors can age in place, while children are safe to play free without the danger of vehicle traffic because cars are parked safely on the outskirts.

Imagine a housing development where residents can access very inexpensive, high quality food offered as community suppers 5 days a week!

Or where residents have total access to a common amenities building that includes craft space, gym, library, office space, yoga studio, large kitchen and dining area and even a music room!

Imagine a housing development that can manage all of its surface waters during storm events and turn it into ponds, streams and wetlands that make the area flood proof, fire resistant and fosters diverse and thriving ecosystems!

Imagine a village that handles all of its own water and sewage waste to the highest standards, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25 times (not 25%, 25 times!)

Imagine a 50 acre farm that is chemical free, regenerates depleted soils, sequesters 100s of tones of atmospheric carbon and provides high quality and nutrient dense food to the residents and greater community while fostering diverse functioning ecosystems!

Imagine a housing development that aims to become net zero or beyond with regard to power consumption.

What a dream of a community that would be right?
